Deckbuilders are the perfect commute game

Deckbuilders are the perfect commute game

July 27, 2026 · Klara Reinholt

I've played a lot of things on trains, and deckbuilders have slowly become my default. Cardbound Keep is the current obsession, but the genre as a whole just fits the format weirdly well. A single run slots neatly into a commute, and if your stop comes early, the game pauses cleanly without losing progress. Try that with a racing game or a timed puzzle and you'll end up cursing at a platform. The decision density is what keeps me engaged. Every card you draft is a tiny gamble about the run ahead, and because each run is short, a bad choice doesn't sting for long. You just learn and start again. If you're new to the genre, don't overthink your first deck. Pick cards that obviously combo, lose a few runs, and let the system teach you. That slow-building competence is most of the fun.
